Boring Story @ Pianos NYC (12/17/2022)
I walked into Pianos in Lower Manhattan Saturday night, excited for the show I was about to see. The front bar is packed, shoulder to shoulder, with people waiting to go to the back venue. I arrived early to get a good place to stand, but it appears others had the same idea. When we were let in the venue area, the room filled up, and I noticed the excitement that I felt was shared amongst the crowd. Shortly after, Boring Story came onto the stage to start their set.
Boring Story is an alternative rock group from Cleveland, Ohio. Although alternative, I would describe their music more specifically as moody, technical, heavy, and a bit snarky. Zach, the lead singer, is the type of musician that fills a stage. Feeling and moving his way through the words, he sings to the crowd, and they give the energy right back to him. Boring Story is a three piece band, that has been around since 2009. Zach Griffin leads the band on vocals and guitar, Nick Harley on bass, and Ben Taylor on drums.
On Saturday, Boring Story played a lot of songs from their upcoming album titled Rust. One of those songs, “Below Us”, was an energy inducing, rhythmic, and melodic tune that ended with Zach begging for something in space to “blow us all away”. Towards the end of the set the band played a song called “Sad Sack”. That one is a unique journey of self reflection, told through a bratty tone.
Make sure to keep your eyes peeled early 2023 for the Boring Story album Rust, and try to catch them live around Northeast Ohio.
