Mod Sun @ Agora (3/09/2023)
Mod Sun put on a hell of a show Thursday night for a packed in Agora Theatre. One day before his 36th birthday, the crowd welcomed him with open arms, and screaming voices.
Before this assignment, I had never heard Mod Sun’s music. I was interested in covering the show based strictly on how cool his live performances are. I was eager to give the music a chance, and I am so glad I did. Mod Sun has a devoted fanbase. At one point during the show he asked the crowd how long they had been fans of his. He asked, one by one, “One year? Two years? Five years? Ten years?”. Each time the number of hands dropped slightly, but a substancial amount stayed up for the ten year marks. I think it’s so cool when artists can stand the test of time, and adjust along side of it. When Mod Sun originally started he was more of a rap artists, but around 2015 shifted into pop punk. At the show Thursday night, he played a lot of tunes from his new album “God Save the Teen” that just came out this year, but he also pleased his long time fans by playing some old songs as well.
I would go see Mod Sun again. Between his attentiveness to the crowd, high energy, and fun lyrics it’s a time to be had. Mod Sun still has some dates left on the tour, so there’s still time to catch a show!
