Static X & Sevendust @ Agora (2/22/24)

“Sevendust has played shows together for over two decades, but absolutely nothing about their set on Thursday evening felt tired or old. If anything that time together has only solidified their stage presence. Appreciation and connectiveness were my main takeaways from the Sevendust set. Lead vocalist, Lajon Witherspoon, was so mindful to include the crowd, waving at crowd-surfers as they got close to the stage, fist bumping with fans in the front row, and regularly asking if everyone was having a good time. During my three songs in the pit, he even brought up a crowd surfer to part of the stage for a moment to sing with him.

Machine Killer, a co-headling tour, was named after Sevendusts 14th studio album "Truth Killer", and Static X's second album titled "Machine" released originally in 2001. Over the last couple years Static X has released "Project Regeneration" part 1 and 2 using previously recorded vocals from their late singer Wayne Static who unfortunately passed away in 2014. During this tour, in an effort to respect the legacy of Wayne Static, the touring singer Xer0 has decided to wear a mask that is inspired by Wayne's face, and keep their own identity a mystery. People have speculated who Xer0's is under the mask, but the band has stated that they would like Wayne to remain the singer that is associated with Static X so their identity does not need disclosed.

The mask that Xer0 wears was only one part of what made for an incredible set played by Static X Thursday night. Entering the state first in total darkness, a giant disco ball pumpkin came out and set the mood for what would be an insane show. An industrial sized bubble machine, smoke, and a light show topped off an energetic performance by the band. Watching the show felt like I was in a futuristic club at halloween time. Photographing Static X was a goal of mine since I saw they were touring again, and I'm beyond happy with what I was able to capture of their set. I hope I get to photograph them again for years to come.”
