Gregory Alan Isakov @ KEMBA Live! (6/19/24)

The heat index reached above 95 degrees on Tuesday evening, but despite, the crowd still packed in to KEMBA Live for Gregory Alan Isakov's performance. I knew we would be in for something special, because even through the sweat and sunburn, people still had smiles on their faces.

Mon Rovîa opened up the evening with some sweet tunes, that got the crowd tuned in. Mon spoke about being from Liberia, and his experience living in the U.S. He took time between songs to explain the next one, and connect with the audience. There was a genuine appreciation he showed to the crowd, as he spoke to them about his music with a soft smile.

Gregory Alan Isakov and his five piece band came out next, to a crowd that was very excited to see them. Gregory is currently touring for his newest album release "Appaloosa Bones" which came out in 2023. With a voice so unique and strong, and lyrics that almost break your heart, the crowd was emotionally locked in from the very first note. The band played a plethora of music from their six-album discography, giving equal attention to new songs from their recent release, and old hits. Isakov has, what I would describe it as, a once in a lifetime voice. Throughout his records he soulfully croons, but in person his voice is just as strong, if not stronger. I found myself in the crowd moved to tears with how beautiful it sounds, especially when combined with the melancholic instrumentals. Isakov will be on tour for most of the rest of the year, so make sure to catch him if you have the chance!
