King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard @ Jacobs Pavilion (8/24/24)

This past weekend at Jacob’s Pavilion, Geese and King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard performed for a sold-out crowd on a beautiful Summer Saturday evening. Geese, a band from New York, started things off with their tune “Mysterious Love” from their 2023 album “3D Country”. They played mostly songs from that album, but mixed in a few from their previous project “4D Country”. They got the crowd moving and ready for King Gizzard to follow

King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard formed in 2010 in Australia, and are known for their groovy hits, and the large amount of albums they’ve put out; 26 studio albums including 5 released in 2022 alone. With such a large discography to choose from, there was much excitement and anticipation waiting for King Gizzard as they took the stage. They opened with “Magma” followed by “Muddy Water”, and “Antarctica”. They played a variety of music from throughout their tenure in the two hour performance at Jacobs. Their music features a mix of instrumental and thrash tracks that got everyone moving around. Even if you're not familiar with every single one of their projects, it's impossible not to find something to like with their diverse music. The crowd was on fire, from the pit to the stands, and even the folks out on the water were enjoying every moment of the show.

Experiencing Stu Mackenzie (their vocalist) live gave me a whole new level of appreciation for the band. With 14 years of mind-blowing performances under their belt, King Gizzard show no signs of slowing down.
