We Live and Breathe Music

Pulmonary Sound

Microwave @ The Roxy (5/10/24)

I started listening to Microwave in fall of 2016 when their second album "Much Love" was released. Infused with depressed lyrics about struggling, while seemingly accepting ones fate, the album hit me exactly where I needed it at the time. Each time I put in on, it felt like there was a voice talking back to me that understood what I was feeling. That voice, the one of Nathan Hardy, helped me through a lot during that time. Fast forward 8 years, and Microwave just released their fourth studio album titled "Let's Start Degeneracy". Luckily, both Nathan and I both seem to be in a better place now. "LSD" still talks about grippingly harsh realities, but has a tone of hope instead of acceptance when it comes to dealing with them.

Microwave performed alongside Carpool Tunnel, Heart Attack Man, and Origami Angel at The Roxy in Lakewood Thursday night. Microwave opened with "Bored of Being Sad" off of their newest album, followed by classics "Drown", and "Labor Day". The band consists of Singer Nathan Hardy, drummer Timothy Pittard, bassist Tyler Hill, and touring guitarist Lucas Jones. The crowd was absolutely packed in, and showed equal hype and excitement for all the bands on the bill. Unfortunately I arrived midway through Carpool Tunnels set because of parking issues so I didn't get to photograph them, but they sounded awesome! Check out photos of the rest of the bands below.

I'm very glad I got to see Microwave perform some of their new tunes Friday night. It felt cathartic for me to hear the songs that comforted me in some of my worst moments, along side the new ones that mirror a sense of hope. I hope they keep growing an releasing music for a long time
